RRSP Refund Estimator

What will an RRSP contribution bring back?

Your RRSP contribution comes off your taxable income, so the refund depends on your tax bracket. This uses 2026 federal and Ontario rates.

  • Counts the federal and Ontario brackets, the Ontario surtax and the basic personal amounts.
  • Doesn’t count other credits and deductions, or tax already taken off your pay.
  • Your contribution limit is on your CRA Notice of Assessment.

  • Missed years carry forward: catching up, the grant can be up to $1,000 a year.
  • The grant stops at the end of the year the child turns 17, with extra conditions at 16 and 17.
  • Doesn’t include investment growth, or the Canada Learning Bond for eligible families.

Life Insurance Needs

How much coverage would your family need?

The DIME method: Debts, Income, Mortgage and Education, minus what’s already in place.

  • Count coverage through work, but remember it usually ends when you leave the job.
  • Use your own estimate for education; costs vary a lot by program and city.
  • A starting point only: it ignores inflation, tax, and what the money would earn.

What could steady saving grow to?

Pick a monthly amount, a timeline and a hypothetical rate, and see how much is your money and how much is growth.

  • Hypothetical only: real returns go up and down, and are never this smooth.
  • Doesn’t include fees or tax, which reduce what you keep.
  • The pattern is the point: time does more of the work than the rate.
